Adopt a Beagle
So, you have been thinking about adopting a Beagle puppy. While I think that this is an absolutely awesome idea, I have a better one! If you have your heart set on adopting a Beagle, I would urge you to consider rescuing an adult Beagle rather than a beagle puppy. Not I think there is anything wrong with adopting a beagle puppy, it’s just that beagle puppies have a much better chance of finding a new home than an adult beagle does. Let’s face the facts, beagle puppies are only puppies for a few months anyway. They eventually grow up to be adult beagles. Caring for beagle puppies also requires a lot of time and patience. One of the top reasons why adopting an adult beagle might be your better option is not having to go through housebreaking a new puppy.

One of the most important things to consider before you adopt a Beagle puppy, is figuring out how much time your new family member will be spending alone. What is your work schedule like? How many hours will you be gone at one given time? Remember, puppies need a lot of attention. In fact, in the beginning puppies require constant attention. The key to successful housebreaking a beagle puppy is consistency. You want to try and prevent as many accidents as possible. Once a puppy soils the carpeting, it becomes much more difficult to train them not to go in that spot. The scent is there, even if you can’t smell it, your puppies can! Puppies can usually hold their bladders for one hour for every month they have been alive. So if your puppy is two months old, then they should be able to hold their bladder for about two hours. This is not that long so if you know that your puppy will alone for long periods of time, you can expect accidents to occur often. Before you adopt a beagle puppy, ask yourself if you have enough time to train your puppy.
If you adopt an adult beagle you will not have this problem because an adult beagle’s bladder is already fully developed. Most shelter dogs are often already house trained and Beagle rescue groups make sure their adult dogs for adoption are housebroken before they go to new homes. Just think, you will be able to leave your new dog at home without worrying about whether or not they have ruined your carpets. Even if they aren’t housebroken, it is usually easier to housebreak adult beagles due to their biological makeup. Beagle puppies will have to grow before they are even capable of holding their bladders.
There are countless other reasons why it would be better to adopt an adult beagle rather than going for one of the adorable beagle puppies that we all know will have no problem finding homes. Some other issues that may arise when adopting a puppy are teething, vaccinations and training.
