Beagle Breeders
So, you have decided that you would like to get a Beagle. The next question that most people will have is, “how do I find a reputable beagle breeder?” My brother is currently looking to get a beagle for his family so we decided to work through the process of finding a reputable Beagle Breeder together. Following these steps will make finding the right beagle breeder a much easier task.
The first thing we did was Google Beagle Breeders. We decided to begin the process by visiting the American Kennel Club’s Beagle Puppies Website. The AKC is a well known, reputable organization, so we figured this would be the safest place to start. The AKC recommends puppy buyers begin the search process by contacting the AKC Parent Club. The parent club for Beagles is The National Beagle Club of America. Once you have established who the parent club is for the particular breed that you are interested in, you can begin browsing through the breeders that are listed on the parent clubs website.
The parent club clearly states the following information regarding the breeders listed on their website. “The following people are all NBC members or Supporting members and have requested that their names and other information be listed here. This does not in any way reflect the NBC guarantee or endorsement of their dogs, their kennel or their business practices. This is for the buyer to ensure and the breeders to provide.” The website conveniently lists breeders by state.
Because we live in NY, we looked up the Beagle breeders in New York. There were a total of three beagle breeders listed for the New York Area. Jessica Eggleston of Bygodde Kennels (S) is located in Saratoga Springs, New York. S.Terri Giannetti & Ted Swedalla of Beowulf Kennel (S), are located in Middle Island, New York and Sue Nichols of Lightfall Beagles is located in Oswego, New York.
We happen to live on Long Island so Beowulf Kennel was our first choice. Along with the kennels name was their website address. We visited the Beowulf Kennel and were very pleased with what we saw. The website provided us with a little background on each owner. There was a page dedicated to how they started their business and most importantly they have a protocol that potential beagle owners must adhere to. It is important that nay breeder take interest in whom they are potentially selling their beagle poppies. To. It’s nice to know that these particular breeders will not just sell their beagle puppies to just anyone. You have to fill out an application, meet with the breeders and dogs and together decide if the getting a beagle puppy is the best choice for you and the dog.
There were many other Beagle breeders listed on this website and if you do not live in the New York area than you may want to explore some of the other breeders. Anyway, it is a great place to start and it really helped us narrow down the possibilities of Beagle Breeders in New York.
