- You will also want to ask about the grooming requirements for beagle puppies. Beagles do not have very thick coats. They have a short coat and they really do not require much grooming. You won’t have to worry about brushing, You may want to give them baths periodically but their coats are really easy to care for. Beagles do however have long ears that need to be kept clean. They are prone to ear infections and it’s important to stay on top of them.
- One of the most important questions you should ask any dog breeder is the amount of exercise that your pup will need. All dog breeds are different so this can be a deciding factor for many. Beagles need moderate exercise. However, this doesn’t mean that they like to e inside. Beagles are more of an outdoors type of dog. They love tracking new scents which can get them into trouble. Make sure that if you let your dog outside unattended that they are confined by a fence. Otherwise they may end up getting lost while following a scent. Beagle puppies would love a brief jog in the park or a brisk daily walk.
- It’s a great idea to ask the breeder if you can see the parents of the beagle puppies. A reputable Beagle breeder will have the beagle pups parents on the premises. If a breeder is reluctant about showing you the puppy’s parents, then they probably do not want you to see them or they do not own them at all. This is an immediate red flag. This isn’t someone that you would want to business with.
- You may also want to ask how many different breeds of dogs the breeder deals with. Most reputable breeders usually stick to only one type of dog. If a breeder has beagle puppies for sale along with Chihuahuas, bull mastiffs, labs, Rottweilers, shih tzu’s, etc. then they are probably in it for the money not the dogs. Most people breed dogs because they are passionate about a particular breed and they have a deep love and respect for that type of dog. So, having too many breeds can also be a no-no!

Training Your Beagle Puppies to Listen to You
Why Won’t My Beagle Listen To Me?
This is a common question that most first-time Beagle owners ask me. Before I answer your question, let me ask you a few instead:
- Do you use cookies, collars, head halters or clickers to make your Beagle Puppies listen to your commands?
- Do you have to raise your voice every time you want your Beagle Pups to listen to you?
- Does your Beagle always come or sit on command – anytime and anywhere you want him to?
If your answers are mostly in the negative, its time you seriously reconsider your role as a sincere Beagle trainer and an ideal pet parent.

Get Your Beagle Puppies To Listen To You
Before you begin any training, you must first establish yourself as the “ALPHA dog” of your family. Your Beagle Pups must know that you’re the leader of the pack and it is YOU who is in charge.
Here is a list of simple DO’s and DONT’s that you must follow if you want to be the Alpha:
- Always go out or come in through the door first – remember you are the leader;
- Always eat first – give your Beagle something to eat only after you’ve finished your meal;
- Don’t circle around your Beagle when he is lying on the floor – make your Beagle move out of your way instead;
- Don’t let your Beagle set the rules – pay attention to him when you think fit and not whenever he demands;
- Don’t permit your Beagle to sleep with you in your bed – demarcate his sleeping area clearly.
Once you successfully established yourself as the Alpha, training your Beagle Puppies and making them listen will be a lot easier than you can imagine. Remember, if your Beagle Puppies do not learn to “listen”, all your training efforts will be in vain!
Does your Beagle know his name? Does your Beagle look at you whenever you call him by his name? This is the first and the most critical step involved in Beagle Training. If your Beagle doesn’t respond to his name, you cannot have his attention for teaching him any other commands.
To make sure that your Beagle Puppies recognizes their name, take a treat in your hand and hold it away from your body. Call your Beagle’s name. He is most likely to look at the treat in your hand. Continue calling his name until he turns and looks at your eyes. Give him the treat immediately. Repeat this exercise by holding the treat in the other hand. Once you’re sure that your Beagle has learned to recognize his name, just call his name and reward him for looking at you by petting or with a hug.
You must understand that Beagles respond far better to positive reinforcement than they do to coercion or force.
